homemade falafels

Make this veganuary tastier with these homemade protein packed falafels. I created two different flavours, but there is still plenty room for improvisation, so I promise that you will have loads of fun! 🌟 They are also quite easy to make and are just perfect for lunch boxes 🙌

you will need:

This recipe makes about 35 large or 80 small falafels, so feel free to reduce quantities. This is enough for 10-12 lunch boxes.
  • 3 cans of chickpeas
  • 1 can of mixed beans
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 1 green pepper
  • 1 chilli pepper
  • 3 cups of flour
  • 1 tablespoon of vegan pesto
  • 3 tablespoons of hemp protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 2-3 pinches of sea salt
  • some vegetable oil for frying
  • various spices for flavouring falafels (suggestions: BBQ one with dried paprika, chilli powder and black pepper; Indian spice one with cumin, turmeric, garam masala, coriander and ginger)

Blend following ingredients for good 5-6 minutes:
​chickpeas, mixed beans, garlic, green pepper, chilli pepper, vegan pesto, hemp protein powder, olive oil, sea salt.

Combine some of the falafel mix with equal amount of plain flour and spices of your choice.
Form small to medium size balls. Make them all as equal as possible so they fry equally.

step 4

heat up large frying pan with some vegetable oil in it. Fry on a medium heat for about 3 minutes on each side. Leave on a kitchen towel to dry and then pack your lunch boxes!
